In 1995, Mike ruptured a disc in his cervical spine compressing his spinal cord. This resulted in debilitating pain, numbness and loss of fine motor skills in his extremities. Neurosurgeons concluded that without surgical intervention he could be paralyzed from the neck down. However, surgeons cautioned due to the severity of the injury a positive outcome could not be guaranteed, and the symptoms could continue. Feeling hopeless by this discouraging prognosis, He postponed surgery and started seeking alternative methods for pain relief. With the help of Western and Eastern Medicines, along with his strong desire to regain his health, he slowly recovered from his injury.
It was through his experience that Mike gained an understanding and appreciation for healing methods which offered an alternative to surgery and avoided a life long regiment of pain medication.
